Japan’s Oldest Beer Hall "Ginza Lion Nanachome"

Lots of people enjoy a frosty mug of beer after working. In an evening, the order "bring me a beer first" can be heard at most restaurants and pubs throughout Japan, but nowhere more than Ginza Lion Nanachome which is the oldest still-operated beer hall in Japan.

Ginza Lion Nanachome tapped its first keg on April 8, 1934; it has been located here and operated for 75 years since its foundation. The building was designed by the famous Japanese architect Eizo Sugawara, who also designed the old Shinbashi Theater. The mosaic arts that cover the interior walls took three years to be completed; they preserve the image of Ginza in prewar days.

By the way, the very first beer hall in Japan was the Ebisu Beer Hall, founded in Ginza Hatchome in 1899. It was an immediate hit. Therefore, in the following year, unique businesses such as Ram Hall and Milk Hall appeared and got peoples’ attention.

Beer is a relaxing beverage in all seasons. When you’re tired, why don’t you grab a tall mug of the amber nectar at Ginza Lion Nanachome? Its convivial atmosphere always welcomes you and your friends for a great conversation.
