Japan’s First Fruit Parlor "Ginza Senbikiya"

Just as different flowers bloom in spring, summer, fall and winter, the fresh fruit available varies from season to season. But if fresh fruit in season is delicious, parfaits and cakes made with fresh fruit is even more fun! Ginza Senbikiya is a specialty fruit shop that opened in 1894. In 1913, it opened Japan’s first "fruit parlor." Strawberries in spring, peaches and mangoes in summer, chestnuts and grapes in autumn, apples in winter: The menu varies with the turning of the seasons, bringing fresh delights each month. Ginza Senbikiya is also the first fruit parlor to offer fruit punch. The fruit parlor is busiest in spring and summer. As the wheather turns colder however, popular fruits such as strawberries and water melon go out of season, and customers abandon fruit treats in favor of hot dishes. To attract customers during the cooler months, Ginza Senbikiya mixed fresh fruit, sugar and water to create a coctail called a fruit punch. If your feet are starting to get sore from walking around Ginza, you might consider recharging your batteries with some fresh fruit treats.
